Peyton. Class of 2018.October 6, 2017

I love Michigan. I love the water and the woods, the sunsets and beaches, I love it all. When I was contacted to shoot Peyton’s senior photos in the “thumb”, I was so excited. I have been to the “thumb” but this time I was going to be introduced to the area by people who grew up there and also still live there. My hopes were high that they would show me some secret beauty on the shores of Lake Huron and they did not disappoint.

Peyton is a young woman who has a wonderfully bright future, she takes great pride in who she is and she projects a light on all who surround her, the world could use more people like this. During her session, when I would ask her for a serious face, the next frame she was beaming with the brightest smile or she would burst into laughter, her humor and silliness made this session so much fun.

We wrapped up our day on the beach watching the sun set, Peyton said “there’s nothing like a HuCo sunset”. I have always been partial to the northwest parts of Michigan, but after seeing that sunset on Lake Huron, I may have to explore the thumb more in the future.

I have to thank my friends Lisa and Casey for making this shoot happen and for carting me around, I’m lucky to have awesome supportive women surrounding me, love you ladies! xo

Taylor and Nick. Married.September 25, 2017

Sometimes when I’m contacted about photographing a wedding, I know from that very moment, this is going to be a lot of fun. The first time I met Taylor, we sat down for coffee and I was immediately excited to work with her and Nick. They are a couple who don’t just see their pairing as about them, but also the world and how they can use their power and voices to help change things for the better, for everyone.

I wanted to capture the heart of Taylor and Nick’s wedding, from their home, to their birthday serenade of Taylor’s mom, to their first dance, I wanted to capture their love and their personalities. Congratulations to Taylor and Nick, I wish you the best, your wedding was a fantastic affair and I absolutely love that you played Black Sabbath during dinner!

This wedding season has been an inspiration, I have had the honor of working with friends, activists and artists. I have cried, smiled, laughed and danced. I have been dazzled by vows, wowed by wonderful families and I’m trusted to capture all of it, in my way. I couldn’t be more grateful.

Sarah and Martin. Engaged.March 1, 2017

I’m proud that I am now a punctual person, with work that is. I used to be late for everything, and if it’s something going on in my personal life, I’m still going to be late, but I have never been late to a session, event or wedding, until this past November.

On the way to Sarah and Martin’s engagement session, I found myself tangled in traffic caused by some classic Michigan road construction. When I finally arrived to the park, I was greeted by the slowest driver I have ever had the displeasure of following behind. I ran to our designated meeting spot and I was a frantic mess and dug thru my purse for a few quarters to buy seeds for the birds, I figured we could spend a few minutes doing this while I composed myself from my stressful drive. I never expected that the birds would set the tone for the session.

It’s hard not to smile when a chickadee lands on your hand and hangs out for a bit, this made for some wonderfully genuine moments, when there’s something to focus on while being photographed,¬†everyone is relaxed because no one is aware of the camera. The soft, warm light of the late afternoon diffused through the trees and the pops of burnt orange leaves made for some unexpected beauty. Sarah even had the opportunity to charm a cardinal to eat from her hand, it was magic.

After editing this collection of photos and uploading them to their gallery, I proudly flipped through them one more time before sending them to Sarah and Martin. Sending a gallery of photos to a client can be a daunting task, I go through a wave of feelings. Sometimes, I look at the photos and I get that zap of emotion, knowing that I took what was in my head¬†and brought it to life, but once I hit send, I go from excitement to anxiety, until I hear back that’s where I remain.

47 minutes after I sent Sarah the gallery link, she emailed me back, telling me that she was so happy with the photos because “they looked like us”. For me, there are no better words to read.

Congratulations to Sarah and Martin, I can’t wait to work with you again at your wedding in the Fall.

Adella + Nikita. Married.January 31, 2017

I consider what I do to be a privilege. My clients hire me to capture some of the most precious and important moments of their lives. I witness their vows and commitments to one another, I witness the births of their children, I capture milestones of their families and it all centers around love. Essentially, I document love.

Adella and Nikita’s wedding was a wonderful example of what defines love. It is strength. It is partnership. It is community. It is friendship. It is passion.

And we need to celebrate it every chance we get. Congratulations ladies, I wish you all the happiness in the world.
